Trump Tops Biden in Polls Amid Concerns Over Rising Cost of Living

In five of the six most significant swing states before the 2024 election, President Biden has lagged behind Donald J. Trump, citing factors such as his advanced age and discontentment with his economic management, among others as reported by The New York Times and Siena College on this development.

The results of a poll released on Thursday morning showed that 43% of those in the two-way race would support Mr. Biden and 46% would support Mr. Trump. Twelve percent remain undecided; if compelled to select a candidate, fifty percent would opt for Trump and fifty percent would select Biden. Moreover, in several battleground states, Trump leads according to numerous Morning Consult polls: Arizona (Trump +3), Michigan (Trump +5) and Georgia (Trump +8).

As reported, Mr. Biden leads Mr. Trump by three points in the multi-candidate vote in Wisconsin, the seventh state where a close contest is anticipated. Biden’s re-election campaign is encountering challenges stemming from voter apprehensions regarding the U.S. economy, which economists and Democratic political strategists are troubled by despite the state of employment, fiscal health, and GDP expansion surpassing expectations. A majority (75%) of respondents to the most recent survey believed that the cost of living was increasing, while 18% believed that it had remained unchanged. After reaching its greatest level in four decades, a mere 7% of participants indicated that inflation had “moderated” during the Biden administration.

The candidates’ advantages become evident when the working hours of the electorate are examined. Trump is supported by an even-split non-employees, 44% by Biden and 45% by Trump. A divided opinion exists among those who work 30-40 hours (45% for Biden, 43% for Trump) compared to those who work 30 hours or less (52-37% in favor of Trump). His approval rating rises with the number of hours worked; among those who work 60 or more hours per week, Mr. Trump’s support increases to 80%, whereas Mr. Biden’s approval rating stands at 7%.

“Voters see Trump as having a strong economic advantage, with 59% of voters saying they think Trump will do a better job than Biden, while voters are split on democracy, with Biden at 48%,” Levy pointed out. Immigration, national security, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are three areas where Biden holds double-digit leads. As opposed to 28% for Biden, 48% of respondents stated that Trump is physically and mentally superior.  About 1,574 adult citizens of the United States have undertaken the poll between April 14-16, 2024. ± 3.2 percentage points constitutes the error margin.
